Manpower Agreement

India and Japan signed a formal Memorandum of Cooperation on Specified Skilled Workers, creating a legally protected, government-backed pathway for Indian professionals to work in Japan. In August 2025, both governments launched the landmark Action Plan for India–Japan Human Resource Exchange — targeting 500,000 personnel exchanged over five years, including 50,000 skilled and semi-skilled Indian workers deployed to Japan across priority sectors.

SSW Type II is for advanced-skilled workers and allows unlimited renewals and the right to bring family members. All SSW candidates must pass an industry skills test and demonstrate Japanese language ability. Wages typically range ¥180,000–¥250,000/month.
